Examples of Work

The primary function of this position will be to provide guidance and leadership to ensure the availability of quality patient care. To accomplish this, the candidate will need to be able to do the following duties:

• Provide technical assistance, training and education

• Assess educational needs

• Interpret statutes

• Interpret rules and regulations

• Promote quality improvement planning and system development

• Perform inspections

• Conduct meetings, discussions and workshops to distribute information on Emergency Medical Services practices and programs and to become familiar with a community's Emergency Medical Services needs

• Coordinate with state and local entities in emergency management and security planning and preparedness

• Serve as a vital information hub to out-of-hospital healthcare providers, Emergency Medical Services, physician medical directors, healthcare facilities, training agencies and other stakeholders

• Build relationships

• Complete projects, activities, regional meetings and reports as assigned or required

This position will be located in one of our Northeast Nebraska DHHS offices. Locations include: Bellevue, Blair, Columbus, David City, Fremont, La Vista, Norfolk, Omaha, Pender, Pierce, Plattsmouth, Tekamah, Wahoo, Wayne, and West Point.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: A current license to practice as an EMT, AEMT, or a Paramedic in Nebraska OR training in the armed services as a medical technician or higher level health science professional (such as Paramedic, LPN, RN etc.) is required AND Two or more years' experience in planning and / or providing EMS operations and / or services. Special Notes: AHA CPR certified and National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 certification or must have within six months of hire.

PREFERRED: Bachelors degree in health, management, business, public service, or other related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: Emergency medical services, healthcare facilities, infection control, preparedness, statutes, rules and regulations governing Emergency Medical Services in the State of Nebraska, policies and standards of the department; federal laws; and state emergency medical services protocols. Ability to: provide technical assistance, education and training; conduct unbiased inspection of emergency medical services, and effective communication skills. Skill in: interpreting rules, regulations, and guidelines, leading organizations and teams. Preferred: Knowledge of: organizational structure, functions, and principles of group dynamics. Ability to: plan and coordinate statewide, regional, or local emergency medical services program(s) plan; maintain records and analyze statistics; maintain effective working relationships; understand, interpret and apply standards, rules and regulations; plan and lead group meetings. Skill in: organization planning, investigations, inspections, infection control, and preparedness.
